ICFMH joined IAFP's 13th European Symposium on Food Safety in its mission to contribute to food safety internationally. The ICFMH was present in the exhibition area. Worth to mention is the session S6, entitled “How to exploit omics data on pathogen behavior in Microbiological Risk Assessment: an update on the current research”.
In this session the main outcome of the workshop on "Next Generation MRA (Microbiological Risk Assessment) integration of omics data into assessment" co-organized by ILSI Europe, IAFP, and ICFMH last year were presented. The results of the discussion of the groups dealing with epidemiology, metagenomics, exposure assessment, and hazard characterization, including the points of view of academia and industry, and how best use omics data in MRA were gathered in by three contributions: “The Use of Metagenomics in Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment” by Luca Cocolin (University of Torino-DISAFA), “The Use of Omics in Exposure Assessment” by Heidy den Besten (Wageningen University) and "The Use of Omics in Hazard Characterisation” by Marcel Zwietering (Wageningen University).
